Statement
My work grants me access to things unknown—through both the process and the result. Each piece arises from a response to materials, the natural world, time and memory. Often a meaning is not immediately clear to me. Just as often there is not so much a meaning as a feeling of connection—something more felt than named.
I keep my drawing process as direct, elemental and searching as possible. What is underneath? What is in between? I draw with tools that limit my ability to control until layers of casual line and scrubbed/gouged texture come together to form an image that is mysterious but somehow familiar or remembered. It feels like archeology.
